GRANTS and PROJECTS
The Deer Springs Fire Safe Council (DSFSC) has been extremely successful in obtaining grant funds to increase fire safety and support first responders in the Deer Springs Fire Protection District:

2023


  • $5,000 from Deer Springs Fire Protection District for education and communication
  • $60,000 grant from CAL FIRE/California Climate Investments Fund for "Deer Springs Evacuation Route Improvement, Community Chipping and Education Program."  This is a 3 year program.


2021


  • $5,000 from Deer Springs Fire Protection District for education and communication
  • $2,550 from the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation in support of our community chipping program
  • $24,800 from CAL FIRE/California Climate Investments Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to provide 14 community chipping days 2022-2023.


2020

  • $2,500 from SDG&E for education and communication

 

2019

 

  • $50,000 from SDG&E for Moosa Canyon Fuel Break spring maintenance

 

 

  • $2,500 from SDG&E for education and communication

 

2018

 

  • $61,288 from San Diego County Neighborhood Reinvestment Program for purchase of  4 Zoll Autopulse CPR systems for DSFPD

 

 

  • $189,525 ($93,230 from CAL FIRE with $96,295 match from multiple sources) for 2019-2022 "Deer Springs Community Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Education."

 

  • $5,000 from Deer Springs Fire Protection District for education and communication

 

  • $2,500 from SDG&E for education and communication

 

2017

  • $2,500 from SDG&E to assist in funding the Fire Safety News.

 

2016

  • $41,568 from the California Fire Safe Council for the Deer Springs Community Education and Fuel Treatment project

 

  • $5,000 from the Deer Springs Fire Protection District for ongoing community education programs

 

  • $2,500 from SDG&E for communications and organizational equipment for Cal Fire Public Information Officer Vehicles

 

  • $2,500 from SDG&E to assist in funding the Fire Safety New

 

2015

  • $29,610 from Cal Fire SRA fees to continue the chipping program and community education

 

  • $7,000 from the Deer Springs Fire Protection District for ongoing community education programs

 

  • $15,000 from SDG&E for communications and organizational equipment for Cal Fire Public Information Officer Vehicles

 

  • $2,500 from SDG&E to assist in funding the Fire Safety News

 

2014

  • $2,500 from SDG&E to assist in funding the Fire Safety News

 

  • $169,000 from the County of San Diego to equip eight Battalion Chief vehicles with state-of-the-art communications and organization equipment

 

  • $2,500 from SDG&E to assist in funding the Fire Safety News

 

2012

  • $24,900 fom the San Diego Foundation After the Fires Fund with $14,100 in matching funds from DSFSC and other grants to produce a comprehensive plan to assess the wildfire threat for the Deer Springs Fire District to assist in future mitigation and tactical planning

 

2011

  • Deer Springs Community Fuel Reduction - $98,505 from the US Bureau of Land Management with $26,800 in matching funds from DSFSC and $5,700 from L&M Power Equipment for purchase of a chipper and other allied equipment for the chipping program

 

2010

  • Moosa Canyon Fuel Reduction Phase II - funded by a USFS grant for $80,000 with $13,500 matching funds from Deer Springs Fire District and $6,000 from DSFSC continued abatement of dead, dying diseased and invasive vegetation from southeast areas of Moosa Canyon

 

2009

 

  • Moosa Canyon Fuel Reduction: Phase I – This project was funded by the US Forest Service in 2009 for $89,000 with matching funds of $60,739 from the DSFSC and Deer Springs Fire Protection District.
